We want to equip as many people as we can with knowledge about cancer and how to tackle this disease effectively.
– Dr Khoo Chow Huat, Chief Executive Officer, Sunway Medical Centre
CANCER is a life-changing disease that is never an easy topic to bring up or face even among closest friends and family.
However, it needs to be talked about in an effort to raise awareness.
Sunway Medical Centre statistics show that one in four Malaysians may develop cancer by the age of 75, putting most people at risk.
To tackle this aggressively, the medical centre launched a campaign, Let’s Attack Cancer Effectively (ACE) to raise awareness of early detection and cancer management.
To make the campaign more effective, there will be four initiatives in order to spread the word.
The first is the medical centre’s website on cancer, www.sunwaycancercentre.com, an interactive webpage complete with resources and information related to the various types of cancer.
Then there are two cancer guidebooks titled Cancer: The Reality and Managing Cancer to educate people on the different types of cancer and available treatments.
Next is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme to help the less fortunate gain access to cancer treatment.
Lastly, an awareness forum for cancer patients and the public to discuss and understand the disease better.
