Many people think pharmacists only hand out medicine, but Janice Saw, a Senior Pharmacist at Sunway Medical Centre, does much more. She works with doctors, joins ward rounds, and gives important medication advice. “We’re like walking dictionaries,” she jokes.

Janice didn’t plan to become a pharmacist, but her parents encouraged her. Over time, she grew to love it. “I enjoy helping people make better health decisions,” she says. For her, it’s not just about prescriptions—it’s about making healthcare simple and useful.

Life Beyond Being a Pharmacist in Malaysia

Outside of work, Janice loves sports. She used to play badminton, but recently picked up pickleball. “I joined a club competition and won second place in the mixed doubles! It was a surprise since my friends and I joined just for fun,” she shares. 
 

Her weekends are usually packed with activities like rock climbing, hiking, board game nights, and escape rooms. “I like organising activities. They’re fun, I get to meet people, and make new friends.”

Bringing People Together with Sports

Janice isn’t just a participant, she makes things happen. Whether it’s sports, game nights, or hikes, she organises them all.

“People appreciate when someone takes the lead. I love bringing people together, and I don’t mind the effort as long as everyone enjoys it!” she says. These gatherings aren’t just for fun; they strengthen friendships and build community.

At work, she uses sports to connect colleagues across departments. “Playing together helps us bond,” she notes. In a busy hospital, it’s easy for one to feel isolated, but friendly matches outside work can strengthen the bonds.
