Baby Delivery Options
Sunway Medical Centre’s delivery rooms are available with the following services:
Natural childbirth
This is the preferred option for a healthy mother and a baby with no abnormalities, as there are no risks of surgical complications or infection. Childbirth through the birth canal naturally drains the amniotic fluid from the baby's lungs, allowing for their expansion in a natural process.
Vaginal childbirth with epidural analgesia
Another option for healthy mothers and babies is a form of natural childbirth in which our doctors use a spinal block to reduce delivery pain by injecting medication into the spinal column. Although the pain is reduced, you will still feel the sensation of your baby passing through the birth canal.
Caesarean section
If a mother cannot give birth naturally due to a medical condition, a problem with the baby, or the baby's position in the womb, a C-section is the safest way to proceed. However, since it is a surgical procedure, there is greater blood loss and a longer recovery time due to the need to care for the incision point. Healthy mothers and babies can also safely have Caesarean sections, but the mother should understand the after-delivery care issues.
During delivery, a medical team consisting of the chosen doctor, anesthesiologists and nurses will provide close care for both the mother and baby. As soon as the baby is born, the nursery staff will take diligent care of the baby's health.

Additional Delivery Services Available
Complication and high-risk pregnancy services
At Sunway Medical Centre, we understand that not all pregnancies are straightforward. That's why we offer specific services to help with any complications that may arise with you or your baby. We can monitor the health of both of you at all stages of the pregnancy, especially if you have any of the following concerns:
- Previous difficult childbirth, miscarriage, or uterine surgery
- History of preterm delivery (before 37 weeks)
- Presence of complications such as diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease, heart disease, etc.
- Mother's age younger than 16 or older than 40 years old
- Pregnancy with twins
- Fetus in breech position or with positioning issues (identified at 34 weeks and onwards)
- Uterus size not correlating with gestational age
- Baby weighing less than 2,500 grams or more than 4,000 grams
- Bleeding during pregnancy
- Mother being more than 40 weeks pregnant
- Baby's growth being less than 1 kg/month after the 24th week.
Heart NST (Non-Stress Test)
Once the baby is moving in the womb, a Heart Non-Stress Test (NST) can be performed to check the baby's heart if the mother has any of the following conditions:
- Diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and other similar complications
- Irregular movement of the baby
- Overdue pregnancy
- The volume of amniotic fluid is above or below normal, which can cause birth abnormalities
- The foetus is growing more slowly than usual
