Ultrasound images are captured in real-time and can show the structure and movement of the body’s internal organs, as well as blood flowing through blood vessels.
High resolution ultrasound is used to perform detailed examinations of the head and neck, thyroid gland, testes, prostate gland, breast and female pelvic organs.
It is also used to examine the tendons, muscles and soft tissues of the major joints, and in procedures to guide the administration of steroid injections into joints and surrounding soft tissues. In addition, it is used to provide guidance for biopsy, aspiration and drainage procedures.

Special Diagnostics Department has general ultrasound system with an extensive selection of probes that allows full range of general and specialised ultrasound procedures. All ultrasound examinations are carried out by consultant urologists, surgeons, other medical specialists or trained technicians.A high resolution ultrasound is a quick and painless procedure which does not emit radiation. Patient may be asked to undress and put on a hospital gown depending on which part of the body is to be examined. It is common for the ultrasound room to be dimmed to provide a good viewing condition on the monitor. Gel is applied on the skin surface and a hand-held probe gently moved over this area to view the relevant organs from different angles. The ultrasound can take between 10 and 30 minutes depending on the type of scan.
