Sunway Medical Centre’s Oscars-themed 20th Anniversary dinner

A whopping 1,870 employees of Sunway Medical Centre came together to celebrate the hospital’s 20th anniversary in an annual dinner themed “Oscars Night” last Friday.

The evening filled with glitz and glamour was truly a night to remember with the presence of Sunway Group Chairman and Founder, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Jeffrey Cheah; Sunway Group Healthcare Services Managing Director, Sunway Group Deputy Executive Chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Razman M Hashim; Sunway Group Chief Executive Officer of Education and Healthcare Division, Dato’ Dr Lee Weng Keng; Sunway Group President, Dato’ Chew Chee Kin; Sunway REIT Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Jeffrey Ng Tiong Lip; and Sunway Construction Group Senior Managing Director, Dato’ Tan Kia Loke and his wife.

Also present were Sunway Group Healthcare Services Managing Director Mr Lau Beng Long; Sunway Medical Centre Chief Executive Officer, Mr Choy Wah Wei; Sunway Medical Centre Velocity Chief Executive Officer, Mr Choo Voon Chee; Sunway Group Healthcare (Investments & Projects) Chief Executive Officer, Mr Bryan Lin; Sunway Medical Centre Chief Executive Officer of Aesthetics, Wellness & Lifestyle Medicine, Ms Woon Ming Ming; and senior management team from both Sunway Medical Centre and Sunway Medical Centre Velocity.

The highlight of the event was the Long Service Award recognition to employees who have been with Sunway Medical Centre for 5, 10, 15 and 20 years. Among them, 17 staff members have been with the hospital since the first day of operations on 15 November 1999. Their 20 years of passion, dedication and loyalty have seen the hospital through to what it is today, one of the leading private medical centres in the region.

Besides this, awards were accorded to the Wellness Centre, CSSD, Food Services and CCU, ICU and HDU for the Most Improved Department category. Additionally, another 12 employees were conferred the Most Outstanding Employee Award.

Apart from the amazing music and dance performances, everyone was treated to the Funniest Person in the World, Harith Iskander who wowed the crowd with his stand-up comedy. The crowd were also entertained by emcee, Adibah Noor who belted multiple songs throughout the night.

Sunway Medical Centre’s doctors were not left out as the pioneers joined the VIPs on stage in a cake-cutting ceremony commemorating the hospital’s 20th birthday.

Additionally, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, Dr Sharmina Kamal and Consultant Paediatric Neurologist, Dr Tay Chee Geap were voted as the Most Popular New Consultants. Consultant Endocrinologist and Diabetes Physician, Dr Wong Ming and Consultant Respiratory Physician, Dr Lim Boon Khaw were chosen as the Most Popular Consultants. Also, Consultant Cardiologist, Dato’ Dr Yap Yee Guan and Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist, Datin Dr Wendy Lim won the Best Dressed Consultant Award.

The “Oscars Night” ended with hearts full and happy faces aplenty. Here’s to another 20 more years with Sunway Medical Centre!
