Sunway gives RM275,000 to Media Prima-NSTP Humanitarian Fund

Sunway has contributed RM275,000 to the Media Prima-NSTP Humanitarian Fund.
Since its establishment, the Media Prima-NSTP Humanitarian Fund has helped to lessen the plight and burden affecting many people regardless of whether they were residing inside or outside the country said the fund’s board of trustees member Toh Puan Dr Aishah Ong.
“I have been informed that the donation presented by Sunway is for cancer patients, especially women suffering from breast cancer which is in line with the Pink October month celebration.
“The donation will be channelled to cancer patients seeking treatment at hospitals nationwide, especially people in the B40 income category,” she said after the Sunway the Good Run 2019 programme, here, today.
Sunway Group Healthcare Services managing director Lau Beng Long presented the donation to Ong.
More than 7,000 people, including cancer survivors and tourists, took part in the run, which was divided into three categories — 20km, 10km and 5km.
Also in attendance were Tengku Datin Paduka Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who is the board of trustees member of the Yayasan Raja Muda Selangor and Selangor Youth Community, Sunway Bhd executive director Sarena Cheah Yean Tin, Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Muhammad Yazurin Sallij Muhammad Yassin and Media Prima Bhd group corporate communication department general manager Azlan Abdul Aziz.
Lau said the charity run was organised in conjunction with Sunway Medical Center’s 20th anniversary and aimed at empowering the community as well as creating awareness on healthy living.
“The participation of cancer survivors and those who are seeking treatment for cancer reflects the main objective of the event, which stresses the importance of the community in motivating each other apart from advocating a healthy lifestyle.
“I am glad and proud that more than 7,000 people turned up for event, which was organised for the second time by the Sunway Group.
“The participants took the trouble during their weekend to provide support emotional and motivational support to cancer survivors as well as those who are dealing with cancer.”
Sunway Group Healthcare Services, he said, was always ready to take part in any event to promote awareness on cancer.
“We are ready to provide treatment, including surgery, chemotherapy and radioactive to cancer patients.”
Sarena said the charity run was a platform to bring together and unite the community to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“We want to educate the community on healthy lifestyle whilst promoting sustainability to encourage plastic waste reduction.
“No paper and plastic cups were provided during the event.
“Participants are encouraged to bring their own water bottle.
“Usually for this big occasion, there are 80,000 plastic bottles and paper cups.
“We can reduce waste by as much as 8,000 pounds or eight tonnes a year as reported by the National Centre for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS),” she said.
