Knowledge Bank
Stroke is not a death sentence. Its risks are reducible and its effects can be minimised.
Learn how to take care of your loved one or yourself when facing stroke’s threats.
ACUTE CARE DEPARTMENTS
When the patient arrives at the hospital, the emergency task force will assess the patient and call the core and acute team for CT scan and/or administration of medicine.
LEARN MOREPatients are transferred here to receive critical care and intensive monitoring.
For hemorrhagic strokes, suitable cases will undergo surgery.
Surgery is performed to seal the ruptured aneurysm in hemorrhagic stroke.
Advanced CT and MRI scans allow for fast diagnosis that accurately identifies stroke causes and treatable areas.
LEARN MOREThe team of experienced neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, neurointerventional radiologists, and neurorehabilitation specialists work together to design the best treatment program for the patient’s brain.
LEARN MOREREHABILITATIVE CARE DEPARTMENTS
When the patient’s conditions become stable, a program is drawn up as soon as possible to help regain any physical skills or basic living skills lost during the stroke.
LEARN MORESome patients will have problems speaking normally after stroke, as it may have damaged any level of the auditory (listening) and vocal (speaking) pathways in the brain. Therapy helps improve patients’ ability to communicate by giving personalised support and teaching them the right coping strategies.
LEARN MOREHand surgeries are sometimes performed on patients to correct the posture, control, and function of the hand, helping them recover from the loss of movement, and the pain it brings.
LEARN MOREMental health professionals help stroke patients better manage their stroke-induced issues with cognitive function and psychological well being.
LEARN MOREDietitians and nutritionists help stroke patients manage their nutritional status when they suffer from weight loss due to swallowing difficulties and decrease in appetite.

Back to normal life
The stroke care team carries out careful assessment and treatment plans to see the patients resume normal functioning in:
- Mobility (ability to move)
- Cognition (ability to understand)
- Speech
- Nutrition
- Eyesight
- Continence (ability to control the bowels and bladder)
Preventing it from happening again
When patients have had a stroke, they are under higher risks for another stroke. After a stroke, it is important to find out why it happened in the first place, so we know what to do to stop it from coming back.
Many contributors of stroke, such as high blood pressure, heart disorders, and diabetes are preventable by adopting a healthier lifestyle.
